1. Who you're dealing with

The app Climb A Munro ("the app") is made and operated by ROSS GELDART LIMITED, a company registered in Scotland with company number SC800908 ("we", "us", "our"). Contact us at ross@climbamunro.com.

By downloading, installing, or using the app, you're agreeing to these terms. If there's something here you're not sure about, get in touch and ask.

2. Your licence to use the app

When you buy the app on Apple's App Store or Google Play, you get a personal, non-transferable licence to use it on the devices your store account permits. You don't own the software itself — you own the right to use it.

That licence doesn't extend to:

  • Copying, modifying, reverse-engineering, decompiling, or extracting the source code.
  • Renting, leasing, reselling, or sublicensing the app.
  • Scraping or bulk-downloading the hill data, routes, or descriptions.
  • Using the app in a way that harms other users or breaks the law.

3. Payment

The app is a one-off purchase through the App Store or Google Play. There are no subscriptions. There is no auto-renew. Once you've paid, the app is yours to use on your store account for as long as it exists on that store.

Payment goes through Apple or Google, under their terms and their refund policies. If you want a refund, ask them:

We don't process payments directly and we don't see your card details. Prices are set in each store and may change; the price you paid at purchase is the price you paid.

4. Accounts and Baggers

You can use the app without an account. If you choose to sign in (for cross-device sync and the Baggers feature), you're responsible for keeping your account secure. Don't share it.

Baggers lets you add walking friends and see each other's hill history. Be decent to each other. If an account is used to harass people or impersonate someone, we may suspend or remove it.

5. Safety — the bit that matters

The app is a supplement, not a substitute. British and Irish hills can be dangerous. Weather changes fast. Paths disappear. Phones lose signal, batteries die, and screens crack.

You are responsible for your own safety on the hill. That means:

  • Carry a paper map and compass, and know how to use them.
  • Check the mountain weather forecast (we recommend MWIS) before you go.
  • Tell someone your route and when you expect to be back.
  • Carry enough clothing, food, water, and light for the day going wrong.
  • Turn back when the hill says no.

Hill grades, descriptions, distances, ascent figures, and weather forecasts in the app are given in good faith and to the best of our knowledge, but conditions on the day are not something an app can predict. Do not rely on the app as your only source of information for a walk.

In an emergency in the UK, dial 999 and ask for the police, then mountain rescue.

6. Hill data and third-party content

The list of hills and their heights comes from the Database of British and Irish Hills, used under a Creative Commons Attribution licence (CC-BY). Weather forecasts come from Apple's WeatherKit service. Route descriptions, grading, and the app itself are our own copyright.

7. Availability

We do our best to keep the app running smoothly. We can't promise it'll be available every second of every day — servers go down, Apple and Google push updates, phones do things phones do. We may suspend or change features to fix bugs, improve things, or comply with the law.

8. Our liability

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud. Nothing limits any rights you have under UK consumer law that we can't lawfully limit.

Beyond that, and to the extent the law allows: we're not liable for any indirect loss, loss of profits, loss of data, or loss you couldn't reasonably have foreseen at the time you started using the app. Where we are liable, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for the app.

The app is provided "as is". It's a tool to help you plan and record walks — it's not a guide, not a guarantee, and not a replacement for your own judgement on the hill.

9. Ending your use of the app

You can stop using the app at any time by deleting it. If you signed in, follow the steps at Delete your account to also wipe your data from our servers — inside 30 days, no questions asked.

We may end access where these terms are seriously or repeatedly broken — harassment through Baggers, say, or attempts to reverse-engineer the app. Where we can, we'll get in touch first and give you a chance to put it right.

10. Privacy

How we handle your data is set out in our Privacy Policy. Short version: the app runs no analytics, we don't sell your data, and most of it never leaves your phone.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms — usually because features change, or the law does. Updates are posted here with a new date at the top. Material changes will be flagged in-app the next time you open it. Continuing to use the app after an update means you accept the new terms.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of Scotland. If something ever comes up that we can't sort out between us, it would be settled in the Scottish courts — and if you're a UK consumer, you can also raise it where you live.
